Give a Rabbit Medication

So, the vet has given you some medication to give to your rabbit and you don't know how to give it properly. You've tried but your rabbit just doesn't want to know- well maybe you're doing it wrong? I don't blame you, it's hard! This guide will help you with giving a tablet.

Steps
  1. Creams and gels: clean the wound with a cotton-wool pad and antiseptic, and clip if necessary. Apply the cream from the centre to the edge of wound, to avoid bringing germs from the fur to the wound.
  2. Syrups and teas: put a plastic dropper or needle-less syringe in the corner of the mouth and push the liquid down slowly, to avoid choking.
  3. Eye drops and ointments: hold the eye open and apply a line of ointment along the edge of the lid, or insert the drops in the lower lid pocket.
  4. Ear drops and ointments: Keep the ear upright and insert the applicator tip into the ear canal. Don't push it too far down, or you could risk damaging the middle ear. Massage the ears for a few seconds, to allow the medication to reach inside the ear.
  5. Pills and tablets Gently part the lips on either side of the mouth and place the pill or capsule at the back of the tongue. Alternatively, hide the pill in a green leaf or a piece of banana and handfeed it to the rabbit.
