Internet and Society

This book will provide a multidisciplinary view of the Internet and its interaction with society. It is being written as part of a class project that is planned to continually revise this book as the course is taught in future semesters. The book will be targeted toward college students from any major.
The principal perspectives that will be covered are:
  • technology (the basic infrastructure of the web, its architecture and statistics)
  • economics (the role that the Internet is playing and has played in economies)
  • legal (legal issues, especially copyright, patent, trademark, but also libel, censorship, etc.)
  • culture (online communities, cultural production)
